Dr Swart’s private practice, which was established in 1995, is in the Louis Leipoldt Medical Centre in Bellville to the north of Cape Town.
Our facilities include a hospital-style operating suite where we perform procedures like implants and the removal of wisdom teeth under conscious sedation (outpatient basis). We use advanced dental and monitoring equipment and materials, and we apply additional measures to optimise sterility. For our patients, this saves time and costs, while adding convenience.
The inside of the practice has been designed by an interior decorator to offer a visually pleasing environment that is both beautiful and functional.
Dr Louwrens (Blackie) Swart focuses on the replacement of lost teeth by means of dental implants or major reconstruction of edentulous jaws by means of bone grafting and dental implants. He also focuses on the replacement of teeth lost in the aesthetic area (due to trauma or decay) of the mouth. Aesthetic implants include the immediate placement and, if possible, immediate loading of the implants. He also specialises in bone grafting and socket preservation techniques, and he performs orthognatic surgery (jaw operations) and oral surgery. He offers conscious sedation as office-based anaesthesia. His implant team includes a prosthodontist and a periodontist.
Dr Swart lectures at academic institutions, publishes in journals and speaks at local and international conferences to help grow the body of knowledge on aesthetic dentistry. He also performs live dental implant surgeries as part of his lecture series. His research interests include implant surgery and conscious sedation.
Dr. Swart received his dental degree in 1986 from Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa and his master’s degree in MFOS in 1994, graduating cum laude. He has been in private practice in Cape Town since 1995.
He is a member of various dental and MFOS societies. Various universities have invited him to deliver lectures, and he has published research both nationally and internationally. He has also performed several live dental implant surgeries. Dr. Swart has acted as a moderator, presenter and commentator and served as an expert panel member in various locations around the world. He is also a consultant who has helped develop a web-based education and lecturing platform. He focuses on aesthetic implants, in particular on the immediate placement and, if possible, immediate loading of implants.
In 2014, his private office was certified as a Centre of Excellence for dental implantology by the Straumann Group.
He is a specialist in education and training (KGB).
